Alternating Overlay Mattress – Medium to High Risk
RRP £499 + VAT | Save £210 | Limited Offer £289
The Squirrel Apollo is one of the sector’s most popular and widely used overlay mattresses, with an estimated 2,500 units being used in the UK alone.
It consists of 16 sequentially inflating / deflating cells that gently alternate the surface interface pressures between the mattress and patient. These soft-form cells are sealed within an extremely comfortable but resilient waterproof cover.
Perfect for community and care home use, the Squirrel has been designed for ease of use and maintenance; it plugs into the mains and features a simple comfort control.
The mattress comes with manual pressure adjustment, visual power-off alarm and CPR facility. Squirrel upgraded its inner components, such as T Connectors in 2008 to ensure that it is now one of the most robust overlay systems on the market. Its ultra-quiet pump, coupled with its incredible price, makes it one of the UK’s most used mattresses.
Air mattresses must be used as part of a managed clinical care package to include good nutrition, good hydration and regular repositioning and appropriate clinical intervention. This should be assessed based on the needs of the individual as some people will require very high levels of managed care and others very little. Matrons Report
“This 96y year old lady had suffered a stroke. Due to her Phycosis it was difficult to ensure adequate dietary intake to maintain BM levels. Due to her being bed bound her heals rapidly broke down leaving a small grade 2 pressure ulcer.
After placing her on a Squirrel 9000 Air Mattress her heels began to improve.
At approximately 8 days no further deterioration of this condition occurred and then the sore started to show signs of recovery. She is still nursed on this air flow mattress and after approximately 41 days her heals were completely healed. In my professional capacity I believe that the Squirrel 9000 is, in terms of patient care at least equal to other air flow mattresses used within the industry.
The Squirrel Apollo is possibly the most widely used overlay within the UKS care homes. It now features elephant proof T conectors to ensure improved relaibility. It is also registered with the MHRA and covered by Squirrel Medicals comprehensive insurance policy.
